Vardorvis is a melee fight in a small arena with two environmental hazards running the whole time. It is the most prayer-dependent of the four Desert Treasure II bosses, and the numbers show exactly why.

Getting there

Two ways in:

Teleport nexus. Find Vardorvis in the boss teleport list. The nexus shows its difficulty rating, its notable drops and any requirements before you commit.
Command. ::vard takes you straight there.

The command puts you in your own private instance and does not cost an instance token. There is no reason to fight this one in a public area.

The nexus lists Vardorvis as Master difficulty with no entry requirements, so nothing gates you but your own gear.

Protect from Melee is not optional

Every damage source in this fight is roughly cut in half by Protect from Melee.

Dropping prayer for even a few ticks triples your incoming damage. Keep it on for the entire fight and bring the potions to sustain it.

The axes

Every 45 ticks Vardorvis throws axes that travel across the arena from the edges. If an axe passes within one tile of you it hits.

What to do: watch which directions the axes come from and step out of their lines. They travel in straight lines, so a single sidestep is usually enough. You do not need to run across the arena.

The 45 tick cycle is consistent, so once you have the rhythm you can predict them.

The spikes

Spikes erupt from the floor for 10 to 22 damage. Unlike the axes this is not reduced by prayer, so the only answer is to move off the tile.

Spike damage is small on its own. It becomes a problem when it lands in the same tick as an axe or a melee hit, which is what actually kills people here.

Putting it together

Protect from Melee up before you start, and keep it up.
Attack normally, staying next to him.
Sidestep out of axe lines as they come.
Step off spikes the moment they appear.

The fight is a rhythm rather than a puzzle. Once the axe timing is familiar it becomes a damage race.

What to bring

Melee. He stays in close range.
Prayer potions, generously. Protect from Melee is on for the whole fight and it is the difference between 18 and 55 per hit.
Food. Spikes and axes chip past prayer.
Room to move. Do not fight from the arena edge, you need space to dodge in both directions.
